#DailyDevotion Are You Eagerly Awaiting Jesus’ Return?

Hebrews 9:27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Well that solves a lot of mysteries doesn’t it. We just die once, well as least physically. We don’t get reincarnated. We die and we await the judgment. There is a coming judgment. As Peter says, Act 10:42 “And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he [Jesus of Nazareth] is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.” And Peter says again, 1Pe 4:5 “but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” There is a coming Judgment Day. So how will you be judged?

Well we see Christ has been offered once to bear the sins of many, that is all. He has dealt with our sin, your sin, once for all by his death and burial. Your sin has been dealt with. By Jesus’ death on the cross we have this promise, 2Co 5:19  “that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” We have this promise, Rom 5:6-10 “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  (7) For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—  (8) but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  (9) Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.  (10) For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

Jesus ascended after forty days to the right hand of the Father. Jesus is coming back, as it is written, Zec 12:10  “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.” And again, Rev 1:7 “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.” And again, Dan 7:13-14 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. (14) And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

We as Christians, await the Lord with uplifted heads. We are eagerly waiting for him. He comes with salvation in his wings. Jesus is coming with his reward for those who trusted in his promises and trusted in him, even his name. Jesus comes to give us a kingdom prepared for us before the foundation of the world, the kingdom of God.

Heavenly Father, grant us faith to trust in the work of your Son Jesus Christ, so that at reappearing we may receive the promised reward for our faith, live everlasting and beholding your face. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
