Pro 8:1-4  Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice?  (2)  On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand;  (3)  beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:  (4)  “To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man.

The Word of God has never not been in the world. Even up to the flood there was righteous Noah proclaiming God’s word. While Abraham preached others had gone before sharing the knowledge of the Lord though he was sometimes only one of many gods, he was made known. The Lord had plopped the Israelites in Egypt during the famine and many nations came through Egypt to do business and they heard of the Lord from the Israelites there. Then the Lord plopped them back in Canaan which was the center of trade routes to light on the hill, though they often forgot their purpose.  The Word of God remained.

God’s wisdom is always calling out to the world. Understanding is always raising her voice to be heard.  The Lord places his word in places that encounters people, on the heights, the crossroads, besides the front gates and the entrances of ports. Where is the church not today? In hundreds of thousands of pulpits the wisdom and understanding are proclaim. Even now, as people shut themselves in, Wisdom and Understanding, the Word of the Lord is proclaimed in numerous websites, video hosting sites, social media sites in hundreds of languages crossing the globe. To men she calls and the children of men she cries out listen.

God does not want people to die and go on to perdition. He wants them to repent, to turn from the thoughts of their flesh, to shun the teachings of the god of this world and to listen to Jesus. He has provided the means by which mankind can be saved. The Lord has taken the steps to remove our guilt and take away the stain of our shame. He has initiated the removal of his wrath from sinful man by having his Son Jesus Christ take the punishment for us on the cross.

God wants all mankind to hear the good news and repent and turn to Jesus. The Good News is Jesus has born our guilt and our shame on the cross. The punishment that was ours to bear Jesus bore on the cross. The death that was ours he took upon himself and buried it in the grave. The resurrection of his body raises all the dead, some to eternal life and some to eternal perdition: life to those who believed on Jesus in this life and perdition to those who trusted something or someone else. But the cross of Jesus Christ is God’s wisdom and understanding to the world.

1Co 1:18  For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe…23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24  but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The world may think the cross of Christ is foolishness but it God’s wisdom. It may try to make a lesson out of the cross but in their foolishness they miss the point, the wisdom of God and his understanding. Yet there it is proclaimed across the globe, Jesus died so you may be forgiven and have eternal life. Repent and believe the good news.

Heavenly Father, your wisdom is wiser than our wisest men’s thoughts. Give us your Holy Spirit that we may believe and understand the wisdom you have shown us on the cross of Christ that we enter wisdom’s eternal abode unto life everlasting. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
