#DailyDevotion Jesus Has Been Made Lord And Messiah By The Father

Thursday after Trinity

Acts 2:29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.’ 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

God’s plan for his son Jesus Christ wasn’t just to leave him dead. God planned on raising Jesus from the dead and having him ascend unto heaven to his right hand in order to fulfill his promise to David his servant. He had promised David one of his own seed would sit on his throne always. Jesus besides being the Son of God from all eternity is also according to his flesh a seed of David, the king of Israel.

He fulfilled his promise that his Holy One would not experience decay, so on the third day, he rose again from the dead. He was witnessed to by the women, by the apostles, by his brothers and by five hundred other witnesses, all who could testify before all Israel and God-fearers 50 days later and beyond that Jesus really was alive, having been crucified, dead and buried. The apostles could testify to his ascension.

Jesus, as the Son of God and Son of Man, seated at the right hand of God sent the Holy Spirit as he promised in Isaiah and Joel. The Holy Spirit, who now has come down upon all flesh, convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He has come into the world so the devil could no longer deceive people concerning the Lord and take away the veil that covers men’s hearts so they may hear the good news of Jesus Christ and believe.

And what shall they believe? Jesus of Nazareth has been made both Lord and Messiah by God the Father. Now true Jesus is the Lord according to his divine nature, being the Son of God from all eternity. But not the Father has glorified Jesus in his flesh. Jesus now exercises his divine authority of the Lord of Israel in and through his human nature. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is now praised as Lord, the creator of heaven and earth. Jesus is also praised as Messiah, the anointed one of God, promised by the Lord who would rule Israel, rule the nations with a rod of iron and be the savior of the world.

Almighty God and Father, grant us faith to confess that Jesus, your only begotten Son from all eternity is now Lord and Messiah that we may live under him now and for all eternity receiving from him always the life that is within him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
