#DailyDevotion Jesus Gives Us Understanding Of What Is Going On Here

Pentecost Thursday

Luke 23:1–25

Luk 23:20-24  Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,  (21)  but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”  (22)  A third time he said to them, “Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”  (23)  But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.  (24)  So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

How can we understand such things?  It seems almost impossible to us that such a thing would or could happen to our Lord.  But fear not, the crowds are not in control here.  The epistle lesson from Acts for Trinity Sunday in series B gives us an answer: Act 2:23”this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.”

This is in accordance with what the Lord spoke through the prophet Isaiah: Isa 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned–everyone–to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”  Isa 53:10 “Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.”

It’s good to know God has let us know all things before hand.  Does he give every detail?  Nope.  It requires faith to trust the Word of God.  Do we understand everything?  Nope.  But neither do the soldiers in the battlefield.  Often times they do not understand what the generals are up to and that is ok.  They must trust the generals know what they are doing.

We too must trust God to know what he is doing.  If we could understand every why and how come, then we would be God.  We need only trust Him.  It’s all he ever asked of us.

Lord God, Heavenly Father, give us such faith through your Word that we may trust that you know what you are doing and that you are doing it all on our behalf to bring us to the resurrection from the dead and to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
