Pentecost Monday

#DailyDevotion The Holy Spirit Is Reversing The Tower of Babel.

Pentecost Monday

Acts 1:5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?

Pentecost began the reversal at the Tower of Babel. At Babel the Lord mixed up the languages of the people and sent them to far away places, settling them when and where it please him to populate the earth and to separate man so he wouldn’t together for evil. Now in these last days, he gives the apostles the gift of speaking in tongues. When they spoke each person understood what they were saying in their own language. It wasn’t a babble fest you see in so many charismatic/Pentecostal churches.

The Lord had gathered Jews and God-fearers from all over the known world at that time, on that day. Sure, many Jews and Gentile God-fearers came to Jerusalem at other times, but this day would be different. On this day, they would hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. They would hear how the Father had fulfilled all the promises in the Law of Moses, the Writings and the Prophets. The would hear how Jesus died on the cross making atonement for their sins and how he rose from the dead on the third day, just as he said. They heard how he ascended to the right hand of the Father and now rules heaven and earth and is coming back one day to judge the living and the dead.

And many believed on that day, were baptized into Jesus and were further instructed in the faith. You know what they did after the festival? They went home. They went home to their far distant lands with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They brought with them the saving message of Jesus, who is the Messiah, the Holy One of God! As they shared the good news of Jesus, churches were started in those places. Before the end of the first century, there were churches from Britain to China, from Rome to Ethiopia. It went worldwide.

And today the Gospel of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, Seed of David, the Messiah, the Holy One of God continues to go throughout the world. It is being brought to every tongue, tribe, people and nation. It will continue to go out until the return of Jesus. When Jesus returns, will you be able to say you believed the good news? Jesus is gathering a people and making them one in him. He is reversing the Tower of Babel. Be one his people. Believe the good news.

Heavenly Father, you have brought us the good news of Jesus Christ in a language we can understand. Give us faith that we may truly believe it and be made one in your Son Jesus Christ to the end we inherit the earth with him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
