#DailyDevotion Joining The Heavenly Praise Of The Holy Trinity

Monday after Trinity

Isaiah 6: 2Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one called to another and said:“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

Seraphim are fiery serpents with 6 wings. They are angelic creatures who stand next to the throne of God and they have the privilege of praising God day and night. They cry out, “Holy, Holy, Holy” to each other praising the Lord of hosts. They are in respects similar to the four living creatures surrounding God’s throne in the book of Revelation. What great creatures they must be to stand so close to the Almighty.

We note they cry out three holies and not just one holy. Here the Lord has given us a glimpse into his divine nature and persons. Why if they cry out three holies then there are three holy ones to be praised, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Yet there is only one hymn of praise because there is only one Lord, one God, who is being praised.

The world is full of the Lord’s glory. Indeed, all creation declares the glory of God. Paul writes, Rom 1:19-20 ESV “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.  (20)  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” When we look at creation, we know by instinct there is a God. Yet we reject that instinct and worship the creation instead. Or we make up gods of our own imagination instead of worshipping the One whose glory is manifest in creation. Everyone in the world, no matter if they have never heard of the God of Israel or Jesus is without excuse for not worshipping the God of creation.

Psalm 148 commands all creation to praise the Lord God Almighty, the creator of all that is seen and unseen. With the exception of man and the fallen angels, all creation does praise the Lord. Yet even these on the day of judgment will have to praise the Lord Jesus Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit under compulsion.

This thrice Holy Lord we join in angelic praise, praising him in our worship service on Sunday morning as we gather in his name. We join the heavenly choir as is shown in Revelation, Rev 4:8 ESV  “And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, ‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!’” and the elders 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” For as we sing this hymn, we are standing where Isaiah was standing when he heard the seraphim praising God and the cherubim and elders praising the Lord.

Holy, Holy, Holy are you Lord, maker of heaven and earth, all creation is full of your glory. Give unto us your Holy Spirit and faith that we may ever praise the Father, Son and Holy Spirit rightly and worship you now and forever around your heavenly throne. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
