Lent Day 30

#DailyDevotion Jesus Just Wants You To Trust Him

Lent Day 30

Hebrews 5:8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

Although Jesus was perfect, he humbled himself and became one of us. As such, he had to learn language, to walk, memorize his catechism and subjecting his human will to the will of God. So we see Jesus in the garden saying, Mar 14:36  And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Where Adam had used his will to rebel against God the Father, Jesus, the second Adam, must use his will to obey the Father in every way.

Having done this, Jesus is made perfect, that is to say complete. Everything is fulfilled. It is as he says on the cross, “It is finished.” Jesus totally and completely fulfilled the will of God in his life for us. Everything that is demanded of man, Jesus has done. He was tested in every way, just like us, and he did not sin though he very much felt the temptation just like us. So he is able to sympathize with us when we ourselves are tempted.

Because he has made complete all that was appointed for him by his innocent suffering and death, he is the source of eternal salvation for all men, but especially for those who obey him. Now obey there is much like Jesus’ use in Matthew 28:19ff.. It is not so much do all these commands but keep and trust all that he has instructed us. All he commands is like Torah. It has both laws, precepts and the like and gospel, good news.

First and foremost Jesus wants us to trust him. He wants us to believe he is the one whom God has sent to be our savior. He wants us to trust that he has accomplished this salvation for us. If we cannot do this or will not do this, nothing else we do even matters. Joh 6:29  Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” Again, 1Jn 3:23  “And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.” Trusting Jesus is obeying Jesus. All who trust Jesus, Jesus is the source of their salvation. All who trust someone or something else as their salvation have not received salvation or they have rejected it. Trust Jesus and Jesus alone for your salvation.

Heavenly Father, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to be the source of our salvation. Give us your Holy Spirit, that we may obey your Son, trusting in him for eternal life and then doing all other things he has commanded us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
