#DailyDevotion Who Is It That Brings World Peace?
Micah 4 In the last time the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be firmly established as the chief of the mountains and be raised above the hills, and peoples will flow to it. 2 Many nations will go and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD and to the temple of the God of Jacob. 3He will teach us about His ways and we’ll walk in His paths.” For His revealed truth comes from Zion and the LORD’s word from Jerusalem. and arbitrate for mighty nations far away. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. No nation will raise a sword against another, and people will not learn to fight anymore. 4 But everyone will sit under his vine and his fig tree with no one to frighten them, because the LORD of armies has promised it. 5 Although every other people lives according to the name of their god, we will live according to the name of the LORD our God forever.
In the last time, this is speaking about the end of days and post judgment day. Oh, by the way, we are living in the last days cf. Acts 2:16,17. The mountain of the LORD is the Church. Zion and Jerusalem stand for the Church where the LORD Jesus Christ lives and reigns. The Church is firmly established as the chief of the mounts and raised above the hills. This is not true of the physical, historical Jerusalem, though metaphorically, the worshipers of the LORD went “up” to Jerusalem.
We can see today peoples, nations, of every language and tribe are flowing into the Church. Ok, they may not be flowing into your congregation, but you are but a small part of the kingdom of God. It is bigger than your congregation.
In this Christian Church, Jesus Christ, through His Word and the Holy Spirit who accompanies His Word, teaches us about His ways so we may walk in His paths. There is no other spiritual truth than that which comes from the Church. You need not seek anywhere else in any other religions, organizations or programs for the true spirituality. They do not lead to light but to darkness. It is a revealed truth we can only know from listening to Jesus and the Holy Spirit through the Holy Scriptures aka the Bible, which His Holy Church, the New Jerusalem proclaims.
In the middle of verse 3 we move into the world to come. In this world we shall have lasting peace because Jesus is our peace. The United Nations has this verse blasphemously in the front of their building as if “their works” shall bring about this peace. Man’s work can never bring about this peace. In this peace we shall hammer our swords into plowshares and our spears into pruning hooks. There will be no more war nor learning to fight any longer. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. In this peace we will have rest with no one to bother or frighten us any longer. The LORD of Hosts, Jesus Christ, has promised this. We will have this peace because the LORD Jesus will provide us everything we need. We will be content with what we have and not covet other peoples’ belongings as we do today, which is the source of all wars.
At this time we will live according to the name of our God forever, Jesus Christ, who is long-suffering, kind, full of grace, has steadfast love toward us and who has forgiven our sins for the sake of His suffering and death upon the cross. As His name is upon us, we even now begin to live according to His name, being like Him according to the Spirit.
Heavenly Father, continue to call the nations to Your Son Jesus Christ and may Your name dwell in us richly now and in the world to come. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
