#DailyDevotion When You Are At Your Worst…Who Is There?

#DailyDevotion When You Are At Your Worst…Who Is There?

Psalm 31 9O LORD, be kind and help me—I’m in trouble. My eyes, my throat, and my belly waste away with grief. 10My life is consumed with sorrow, and my years with groaning. My grief breaks down my strength and wastes away my limbs.

David certainly seems as if all is pretty lost here. He depicts himself in an extreme way. He may have indeed felt this way hiding in the hills from Saul and those who helped Saul. In his grief he may have seen the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth on His last day of natural life as He is abandoned by friends, arrested by enemies (who were His people), handed over to the Romans for punishment and executed by crucifixion. These words are written for you who live in agony and pain. They are written for you who are wracked by disease and waste away, that you may know your Creator and Savior know what you are going through as He has borne it all in His flesh as He took upon Himself all our infirmities and nailed to the cross in His own flesh.

11I’m scorned by all my enemies; I’m a curse to my neighbors, and I frighten my friends – they look at me on the street and run away from me.

We continue with Jesus’ innocent suffering and death and what He experienced as He walked through the city’s streets, first the Sanhedrin, then to Pilate’s palace, then to Herod’s and back to Pilate’s. We see Jesus as He carries the cross to Golgatha. He is one who is cursed by God. When you feel as if you are cursed by God, scorned by enemies and people turn away from you because of what you are going through, you may know you are not alone. Jesus has joined you in your afflictions and is there to give you strength.

12I’m forgotten like one who is dead. I’m like a broken dish. 13I hear many slander, frightening me from all sides. Scheming together against me, they plot to take my life.

As we see our Savior, Jesus Christ in the courts of the Sanhedrin and Pilate, we can hear the slander and false accusations against Him. We see how they schemed to take His life. They were afraid of losing all they had. If only they trusted in the One they crucified they would become heir of God and co-heirs with Christ in God’s kingdom. Are we willing to lose all in this world for His name’s sake? Will we stand with Him in all our suffering and pain? Will we trust in Him so that we lose all our worldly possessions, all our family and friends to gain the Kingdom of Heaven and reign with Him on His Father’s throne?

14But I trust You, O LORD. I say, “You are my God.” 15What happens to me is in Your hands – rescue me from my enemies who pursue me. 16Let Your face shine on Your servant, and save me by Your kindness.

Our LORD Jesus Christ but His trust in the Father. He committed His spirit to His Father at the moment of death. Despite being forsaken by God on the cross because of our sins, our iniquity, He put His trust in God the Father. What happens to Jesus is in the Father’s hands. He sought to be rescued from His enemies. At first it looks like the Father abandoned Him. On the third day though, the Father shined on Jesus and saved Him by His kindness and raised Him from the dead, seating Jesus at His right hand. If your faith is in this Jesus, know, believe, be certain as your trust is in Jesus the Father will raise you up on the Last Day and give you His kingdom.

Heavenly Father, give us You Holy Spirit that we may put our faith in Christ Jesus, so we may know you as our God. In this trust, show us Your great kindness and shine Your face upon us so we may be raised to eternal life on the Last Day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
