#DailyDevotion The Seed Of The Woman Saved Us From Satan

Gen. 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

In the beginning, the Lord, Adam and the Woman were all one. The serpent put a barrier between them and the man and the woman had joined themselves to the devil. So God no puts a barrier between the woman and the serpent, hatred for one another. The Lord promises a seed of the woman will one day crush his head, his power while he gets a pound of flesh from her seed.

Ever since them, Satan has been going after the seed of the woman, seeking to destroy the children of women, trying to keep this from happening. So in the days of old and still today, he continues to deceive women into offering up her children to idols, hoping that one of them is the promised seed that was the Lord was talking about, hoping that in killing him he won’t be able to crush his head. He believes the Lord to some extant but not wholly or faithfully. He still thinks he can defeat the Lord.

Now the promise is about the seed of the woman. There are many myths out there about a promised child. These have translated into numerous books, short stories, TV shows and movies. Even Star Wars episode I has adopted it with Anakin Skywalker. The woman, Eve, believed the Lord’s promise. She thought Cain was the one. Only a couple of translations literally translates what she says at the birth of Cain, “I have given birth to a man, the Lord!” Most translations follow the note in the text which says to read “with the help of the Lord.” But Cain is another name for Lord (not YHWH but Adonai). Well that worked about as good as Anakin.

Yet the Lord God doubles down by having a 90 year old woman conceive, Sarah. Then again he promises through Isaiah, a Virgin will conceive and have a son and people will call him Immanuel, which means God with us. The seed of man will not be involved since by a man sin came into the world. So by the seed of the Woman, the Virgin Mary, the Lord fulfills his promise and gives us a Savior who is himself, joined to the seed of the Woman, the Virgin Mary, in her flesh.

In the flesh, the son of Mary, the Son of God, the Lord himself from the Old Testament comes into the world to save a world that rejected him. Satan tried to kill him in Bethlehem but that didn’t work out. It wasn’t his time. But ultimately, the Lord, Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, deigns to allow the devil to strike his heel, to put him on the cross. Satan thinks he is winning in this. If he kills Jesus then Jesus cannot crush his head. But in this act of striking his heel, Jesus crushed Satan’s power over us. He can no longer accuse us before God. Jesus gave up his life for ours by taking on our death. Risen from the dead, death has no power over him and it has no power over those who believe in him, that he has fulfilled God’s promise. Consequently, Man is more powerful than ever before, for Man sits at the right hand of God and we who trusts in him sit with him in the heavenly places.

Heavenly Father, you promised deliverance from Satan by having your Son Jesus Christ become one of us, to die for us and to crush the serpent’s head. Grant us faith to believe the victory is won so we may live daily in that victory unto eternal life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
