#DailyDevotion The Praise Of The LORD Excludes Putting Your Trust In Men

146 Praise the LORD! O my soul, praise the LORD! 2I will praise the LORD as long as I live

and sing to my God as long as I exist. 3Don’t put your trust in the best of men, or in human beings who can’t save. 4When a man stops breathing, he goes back to the ground, and that day his plans perish.

In this psalm psalmist calls for praising the Lord. In an earlier Psalm you started off with blessing the Lord. These first two sentences are not actually praising the Lord yet but they are invitations to praise the Lord. The first sentence is to all creation. The second sentence is to his soul’s very being. And then sets forth his desire, He will praise the Lord as long as he lives and sing to his God as long as he exists. This calls for faithfulness on his part. There is much that is going to be brought in the way of him praising the Lord as long as he lives. You and I now in this first phrase are called to join him in praising the Lord. We too are being called to praise the Lord and sing to God as long as we exist.

Now the first part in praising the Lord is excluding everything else it calls for our praise. The psalmist calls for us here not to put our trust in the best of men or in human beings who cannot save. I think in today’s world this is very pertinent. You may often hear about people talking about tribalism. You and I you’re not give praise to God when we put our trust in politics, political parties, political candidates or government. These are all just fallen men or here today gone tomorrow. The sin that dwells in them also calls them to act in plan in ways that are against God’s will and will not bring about the success, joy, or happiness that we are looking for. This is not to say if God cannot use them to send the tide of evil and to do good things for society as a whole. That you will not get as worked up about all their machinations if you are putting your trust in the Lord and giving him thanks and praise for all he does.

He who truly wants to get a good perspective on life, verse 4 is a good place to start. All men no matter how great or small, they all end up dying and cannot save themselves. Who knows if anything they have done will have any lasting effect, any lasting good effect. All their possessions they no longer possess. The government taxes them, they are distributed among other fallen people, And often come to naught. Their influence on the living generally fades.

So praise the Lord sing to God all your days but your trust in Him, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Father who sent Him. What He has done and will do will last forever. The world, The devil and all the people therein, all their plans will come to an end and perish into eternal fires. But the Word of the Lord will last forever.

Lord God, Heavenly Father, we praise Your Name forever. Give us Your Holy Spirit that we may always put our trust in You and Your son Jesus Christ and not in anything created or any earthly philosophy. May we find true happiness and joy in thanking and praising You and blessing You forever. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
