#DailyDevotion The LORD Jesus Christ Will Be KING Over His People
Micah 4 6 The Lord says: “At that time, I will gather in the lame and bring together those who were driven away, whom I made to suffer. 7 I will make those who are lame a remnant and those who are exiled a strong nation. And after that the LORD will be King over them in Mount Zion forever. 8 Then you, tower of the flock, hill of the daughter of Zion, your rule will come back to you. The people of Jerusalem will again be a kingdom as they were in the beginning.”
When the LORD began to manifest these latter days in Himself as Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Israelite/Jewish people were a lame people, a remnant of their former selves. The LORD had driven them from their lands to all around the world. He caused them to suffer because they were a stiff-necked people. But Jesus began in the gathering during His ministry and then through the ministry of His apostles. He would then add to His people those who were not His people. He is still in the process of making the remnant who are exiled a strong nation.
It is true this nation is now called Christianity. We should not doubt He continues to make this nation suffer. For like our forebears, the Israelites, we too are a stiff-necked people. We still have to old Adam, our sinful nature which tries to drag us into sin. Suffering helps to mortify, to kill this nature as we turn to our LORD for relief. This suffering is for our good. Paul writes in Romans 5, 3“More than that, we also boast of our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces patient endurance, and patient endurance produces a genuine Christian character; and a genuine Christian character produces hope. 5In this hope we’re not disappointed, because the Holy Spirit, Who has been given to us, poured God’s love into our hearts.” He writes further in chapter 8, 18“I think what we suffer now isn’t important when I compare it with the glory to be revealed to us. 19For the created world is waiting on tiptoe to see the unveiling of God’s sons.” Furthermore in 2 Cor. 4 Paul writes, 16“That is why we are not discouraged. No, even if we outwardly perish, inwardly we’re renewed from day to day. 17The light trouble of this moment is preparing for us an everlasting weight of glory, greater than anything we can imagine. 18We don’t look at the things that are seen but at the things that are not seen. What we see lasts only a while, but what we don’t see lasts forever.” Our suffering is temporary. The glory to be revealed to and for us to bear is eternal. Our Father in heaven is using this suffering to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus.
When all of God’s people are finally gathered together, brought into His flock, then the LORD Jesus Christ will be King over them in Mount Zion, the Church forever. The LORD became King over His people in Jeshurun. (Deut. 33:5) He was reject as King in the time of Saul. (1 Sam. 8:7) They rejected Him as King when they handed Him over to Pilate. (John 19:15) Now, at this time, He, the LORD Jesus Christ, will be King over them, over us, forever. Because we are joined to and made one with the King, as a bride is made one with her husband, we will share in His power and His glory. Our rule will come back to us as the people of God. Greater than the dominion that was given to us when we were first made (Gen. 1:28) we will exercise. We will become a kingdom again of royal, holy priests unto the LORD Jesus Christ. We will be seen and known at the people of God, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, our King Jesus. So lean upon the LORD Jesus Christ and His Spirit today as we undergo various trials, tribulations, and losses. Anything we lose and suffer is nothing compared to the unimaginable gifts He has in store for us.
Merciful God and Father, continue to gather the Church, Your people, unto the King, our LORD Jesus Christ, and have us persevere all things so we may inherit the eternal kingdom promised to all who put their trust in Him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
