#DailyDevotion The LORD Jesus Christ Is Our Shield
Psalm 7 9O may the wickedness of the wicked end, while You make the righteous secure. You are a righteous God who examines minds and hearts. 10God Most High is my Shield. He saves those whose heart is right.
Now who are the wicked but those whose faith is not in the LORD the God of Israel. That would be Jesus Christ of Nazareth today. David prays their wickedness would end. This is going to end in three ways, they die, Christ returns or they repent. Who are the righteous but those who put their faith in Jesus Christ. David prays the LORD would make them secure. He first makes our hearts secure, then sometimes in time our circumstances, then most definitely at the resurrection where everything that opposes God is purified or cast into the Lake of Fire never to bother them again. We must continually be giving ourselves over the care of our LORD daily, sometimes hourly, sometimes minute by minute for we are always being attacked on every side, though the LORD does give us relief as needed.
The LORD is a righteous God who examines minds and hearts. Nothing is hidden from his sight. He doesn’t judge by outward appearances which deceive men. He knows not only what we did but why we did it. He knows what we didn’t do but thought and planned. He knows whether or not we trust Him or not.
As such we put ourselves into His hands. We can do that because the LORD Most High is our Shield. You might remember Paul saying to put on the whole armor of God, of one piece is the Shield of faith. He is Himself our shield, He is our faith. He puts out all the fiery arrows of the wicked one. He saves those whose heart is right. The one whose heart is right is the one who trusts Jesus Christ of Nazareth died for his sins. But he does want more than just that. He wants us to abandon ourselves to His care in every aspect of our lives. We lose a lot of sleep and a lot of peace because we still want to have control over our lives and think we actually have control over everything in our lives. Let Jesus take care of you. Hand Him your anxieties as David does in this Psalm.
Jesus is the one who has done this for us in our place before us. He is the one who has given himself over the care of the Father in every instant of his life. He is the one whose heart and mind was pure for our sake. Jesus is the one who cried out to the Father, “If possible let this cup pass from me, but not my will but your will be done.” Jesus is the one who cries out, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me,” then prays, “Into Your hands I commit my spirit.” This Jesus has done to gain for us a God and Father who does not look upon our sin or even our lack of faith or weak faith. He has done this so we may have faith in Him and stir up and strengthen our faith in Him and in God our Father. He has done this to open us heaven’s throne room so we may with all boldness and confidence bring our prayers to God Almighty, who calls Himself our Father, believing and knowing He has heard and listens to us for Christ Jesus’ sake.
Heavenly Father, give us faith. Strengthen us in our faith, so we may trust You are our Shield. Reveal Yourself to us in Jesus Christ so we may know you and put our faith in your in every instance of our lives, not only for the forgiveness of our sins so we may live in the peace of Christ which is beyond all understanding. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
