#DailyDevotion The LORD Has Placed Jesus As King On His Throne
Psalm 2, v. 7
7I will tell about the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You.1Why are the nations getting together so noisily and the people plotting so uselessly? 2The kings of the earth are taking their stand, and the rulers are planning together, against the LORD and His Anointed, saying: 3“Let us tear their ropes in pieces and throw their cords away.” 4Sitting on His throne in heaven, the Lord laughs and mocks at them. 5Then He talks to them angrily and by His fury terrifies them: 6“I installed My King on Zion, My holy hill.”7I will tell about the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You. 8Ask Me and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance and the most distant parts of the earth as Your possession. 9You will break them in pieces with an iron rod and smash them like a potter’s jar.” 10Now then, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the world. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son or He’ll get angry and you’ll perish on your way; because His anger can blaze quickly. Blessed are all who find shelter in Him. 7I will tell about the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You.
While the Son of God, who Jesus is, is eternally begotten of the Father, on Christmas day Jesus, who is still the Son of God, is begotten of the Father into the world as man. True God, true man, light of light, begotten, not made, one in being and substance of the Father and born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The moment Jesus was born the forces of the world started after him beginning with Herod. Then the forces of the Jewish leadership went after him. Finally, the Roman Empire crucified him. They oppose him because he is the LORD who opposes how they do business, how they rule. They oppose Jesus because they think his rule is binding and holding them back. But the truth of the matter is, Jesus’ rule is freedom. It is freedom from the slavery of sin, the slavery of the fear of death and freedom from the devil’s rule—who is their god.
But the Father, Son and Holy Spirit laughs and mocks at them. They are bugs to be squashed compared to him. They have nothing on Jesus. Even though they killed Jesus he rose. They kill Jesus’ disciples. They will rise from the dead also to live and reign with him forever. Jesus has been installed as the Father’s King on Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem as he sits at the right hand of God. Jesus has prayed to the Father and the Father has delivered all the nations to him as an inheritance and possession. His name is above every name, power, dominion and authority in heaven, on earth and under the earth. On the Last Day, he will break those who opposed him into pieces and smash them. They will be food for birds. (Rev. 19)
Therefore, now while you have time, kiss the Son. Serve the LORD with fear, rejoicing and trembling. Know he is on your side. He does want what is best for you. He is not withholding any good from you. His way is not limiting and binding but freeing and gives peace. Turn to Jesus today, submit to him and put your trust in him. The psalmist tells us, “Blessed are all who find shelter in him.” Yes as you put your trust in Jesus the beatitudes are fulfilled in and for you. The earth and everything in it will be yours. You will reign with him.
Heavenly Father, grant us faith that we may make Jesus our shelter, fear, love and trust in him above all things so his kingdom may be our kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
