#DailyDevotion The LORD Fulfills His Promises

Heb. 11 11By faith Sarah, even though she was too old, got the strength to have a child because she believed she could trust Him Who had promised. 12And so, although he had become physically unable to have a child, one man had many descendants, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore that no one can count.

When Abraham was seventy-five the LORD called Abraham out of Ur and when he got to the land He promised Abraham in Gen. 15, “5Then He took him outside. “Now look at the sky,” He said, “and count the stars if you can.” Then He told him, “That is how many descendants you will have.” 6Abram believed the LORD, and so the LORD counted it to him as righteousness.” When Abraham was ninety-nine and Sarah his wife was ninety, the LORD appeared to Abraham again and promised in ch. 17, 4“This is My covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations, Sand you will no more be called Abram [High Father) but Abraham [Father of Many], because I made you a father of many nations. 6I will give you very many descendants and make nations of you, and kings will come from you.”

In Genesis 18, the LORD appeared to Abraham again and we see this exchange:

10“I will certainly come back to you,” He said, “at about the time it takes to have a child, and then your wife Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was listening at the tent door behind Him. 11Abraham and Sarah were old and getting along in years, and Sarah had had her change of life. 12And so Sarah laughed to herself. “Now that I’m worn out,” she said, “and my lord is old too, should I again enjoy myself?” 13The LORD asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Can I really have a child when I’m so old? 14Is anything too wonderful for the LORD? I will come back to you at about the time it takes to have a child, and then Sarah will have a son.” 15“I didn’t laugh,” Sarah lied, being afraid. “No,” He said, “you did laugh.” Deut. 6, “10The LORD your God has made you grow so much you are now as many as the stars in the sky.”

In chapter 21 we are told this:

The LORD was kind to Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what He promised. 2Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son when he was old, at the time God mentioned. 3The son who was born to him, whom Sarah gave him, Abraham called Isaac. 4Abraham circumcised his son Isaac on the eighth day as God had ordered him to do. 5Abraham was 100 when his son Isaac was born. 6“God has made me laugh,” Sarah said, “and everyone who hears about this will laugh about me. Who would ever have said about Abraham,” she added, “ ‘Sarah nurses children? Yet I have borne a son for him in his old age.”

So the LORD fulfilled His promise to Abraham to have a child whose name is laughter. He fulfilled His promise of many descendants in Deut. 6, “10The LORD your God has made you grow so much you are now as many as the stars in the sky.” If the LORD fulfilled these promises, the LORD will fulfill His promise He made to you, “16He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who doesn’t believe will be damned.” (Mark 16) He says, “47I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has everlasting life.”(John 6)

Heavenly Father as you have given faith to Abraham and Sarah, grant us faith in Your Son Jesus Christ so we see the fulfillment of His promise to us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
