#DailyDevotion The LORD, Father, Son & Holy Spirit Are My Salvation
Isaiah 12:1-6 At that time you will say “I will praise You, LORD. Although You were angry with me, Your anger has been turned away, and You comfort me. 2God is the One Who saves me. I trust Him and am not afraid, for the LORD is my Strength and I sing about Him. He has saved me.” 3Happily you will draw water from the saving fountains.
What is “at that time”? In Isaiah 11 we get a picture of the Messiah who is to come and the age that he will usher in. Now it seems that Isaiah in chapter 11 sees different parts at different times and may merge some times into other related times. One is the coming of the Messiah, his crucifixion and the proclamation in his name which gathers the elect from every nation, race, tribe and tongue. We all rally his banner which is the cross. The second is the consummation of the ages where the ravages of sin are no longer present. There is also time where the two are merged as when the Holy Spirit through the message of Jesus frees us from our sin and we are no longer bound to obey it but walk in the Spirit i.e. the Gospel.
As we have entered the time of the Church which is the beginning of endless ages through faith in Christ we indeed can say what Isaiah says we’re going to say. Yes we praise the LORD. Before we knew Jesus we only knew the LORD as someone who was angry with us. Our sins accused us. Satan accused us. Even our conscience accused us.
Yet, the LORD’s anger was turned away. Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our atoning sacrifice, has turned away God’s wrath. He took all our sins upon himself as the scapegoat and the sacrificed goat did in the Law. The shedding of his blood and the pouring out of his blood upon the mercy seat of the Father in the heavenly Holy of Holies, covered our sins and God can no longer see them anymore. That same blood is sprinkled upon us when we are baptized into his name. We can stand with a clear conscience before the Father’s throne.
The Father sent his son to do it. He wanted to and wants to comfort us. He knows we were imprisoned to sin by our sin in the garden and the sins that followed. But not, by his grace, they no longer of any account before the throne of God. He comforts us with the Holy Spirit who creates faith in us in Jesus’ work, regenerates our hearts so we can fear, love and trust in God above all things. The Holy Spirit reminds us we are children of God now through faith in Jesus.
So we proclaim to anyone who will listen to us, “God is the one who saves me.” I could not save myself. I didn’t have the resources or strength to do such a thing. Because he has saved us, we trust in him and are no longer afraid. How can we be afraid of the one who sacrifices his only-begotten Son so we could live eternally with him. So the LORD is also my strength. He gives me the Holy Spirit who is also LORD that I might rightly sing the praises of Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives me the strength to continue in the faith of Jesus Christ though all the world is against me. Greater is he who saved me who created the cosmos who dwells in me than the cosmos he created. Now we partake of the waters of salvation, The Word, The Spirit who accompanies his Word and the sacraments which preserve our faith unto life everlasting.
Heavenly Father, great is your name and you are blessed for saving us. Continue to give us faith in Jesus and your Holy Spirit so we may always sing your praises. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
