#DailyDevotion The Heavens Declare There Is A God And Your Aren’t Him

Psalm 19 The heavens are telling how wonderful God is, and the sky announces what His hands have made. 2One day tells the next a lively story, and one night informs the next 3without talking, without words, without a voice that can be heard.

First, this is not about astrology which the LORD tells His people numerous times in the Old Testament not to trust. It is about natural revelation. When we look up and marvel at the sky, the stars at night and the like, it is telling us how wonderful God is. Paul describes it as such in Romans 1, “19What can be known about God is clear to them because God has made it clear to them. 20Ever since He made the world, they have seen the unseen things of God — from the things He made they can tell He has everlasting power and is God.” As we now can even look deeper into our universe with powerful telescopes, we marvel all the more as creation declares the eternal power of God who created it.

4Yet their sound goes out all over the earth, and what they say to the most distant parts of the world. He has set up a tent in the heavens for the sun, 5and it comes like a bridegroom out of his chamber. Like a strong man it delights to run along its path, 6starting from one end of the sky and moving around to the other. Nothing can hide from its glowing heat.

David’s meditation on the creation and its Maker continues here. What sound does the heavens make and what does it say to the ends of the earth? We have a Maker, a Creator. We’re not God and you’re not God. There is a God who made all these things. Bow down and worship Him!

7The LORD’s word is perfect and gives new life. The LORD’s truth can be trusted to make simple people wise. 8The LORD’s instructions are right, delighting the mind. The LORD’s commandment is pure, a light for the eyes. 9The LORD’s command to fear Him is clean and forever the same. The LORD’s decisions are true and altogether right.

Now David goes from natural revelation to Divine revelation. Not only do we have creation to reveal to us the eternal power of God but we have His divine word from Moses, the prophets and the apostles. His word is perfect and gives us life. By His word He created all things and by his word He gives us faith in Jesus Christ. The LORD’s truth tells us what we should believe and how we should live among each other.

If we follow His instructions they can make even the simple wise. Jesus says in Matt. 7, 24“Anyone who hears and does what I say is like a man who had the sense to build his house on a rock. 25The rain poured down, the torrents came, the winds blew, and they beat against that house. But it didn’t go down, because its foundation was on the rock.” His instructions to us are right and delight our minds if we trust Him.

His commands us to fear Him. That is to say we should worship and trust in Him alone through Jesus Christ our Savior. Everyone who puts their trust in Him will never be ashamed. His commandments, “Trust in Jesus whom He has sent and love one another,” are light for our eyes to guide us in everything we think, say and do. We can trust every judgment the LORD has made for they are true and altogether right. The reveal to us the heart and mind of our LORD.

Heavenly Father, as we meditate upon creation and your word, give us your Holy Spirit that we may trust in your Son Jesus Christ, love our neighbor and rightly praise you for all good things. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
