#DailyDevotion Quit Dilly Dallying With The Grace Of God

2 Cor. 6: 1 Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

No time like the present. Isn’t that the proverb we hear when we’re dilly dallying around? Did Paul think the Corinthians were dilly dallying around with their salvation? He makes an appeal to them to not receive the grace of God in vain. God’s grace had been delivered to them through the ministry of Paul and the pastors put there to continue the mission and building up of the Church there. The message of salvation, the free gift of God in Christ Jesus had been given to them. What were they doing with it? Were they making use of it? The congregation as a whole seemed to be using it to fuel divisions within itself. Should not the grace of God in Christ been uniting them in love?

Look now is the favorable time; now is the day of salvation. If you’ve been messing around and haven’t made your stand for Christ and his gospel, if you have been sitting on the edge of fully committing yourself to Jesus and his teachings, then quit messing around. Today is the day of salvation. Today is all you ever have.

If you have a sin than has a grip on you that you can’t seem to let go of, don’t put off repenting of it because it gives you pleasure while engaged in it. Give it to Jesus today. You feel ashamed later that you committed it. Turn it over to Jesus today. God’s free gift of grace is yours today. Don’t try to justify your sin. Let Jesus’ death and resurrection justify you.

Heb 3:7-8 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice,  (8)  do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,…” The Israelites did not believe the grace the Lord had given them in the wilderness and they did not enter the Promised Land. They wandered the desert for another forty years. They died in the wilderness. They did not enter God’s rest.

Don’t harden your hearts with the sins that infest your life. Jesus wants to give you rest from those sins. Believe Jesus has died for those sins and reconciled you to God. Admit your faults to God, confess your sins, expose your iniquity to the Lord God Almighty and you will see the Lord is merciful and kind and will forgive you those sins, indeed the Lord has already made an atoning sacrifice for them by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Today is your day. Now is the favorable time. God’s grace in Jesus has been given to you. Use it to repent, believe and live in the rest of Christ.

Heavenly Father, help us to recognize the sins we are unrepentant of, confess them and look to your only begotten Son Jesus Christ at the ransom that free us from our bondage to those sins. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
