#DailyDevotion Pray Often & You Will Know God’s Peace Will Ransom You

Psalm 55 17In the evening, in the morning, and at noon I will complain and groan, and He will hear me.

Well here’s a prayer plan program if you ever needed one. In fact these words were the basis for several prayer offices in the Church. It is good to call upon God at regular times. It reminds of who God is and what God is not. In regularly calling upon Him and trusting Him, our hearts will be at more peace and our minds with more sobriety.

But it is good for us to think of God and treat Him as God by complaining and groaning to Him with all our troubles, trusting He will hear us and answer us. We treat God as God when we look to Him for every good. We get into trouble when we look to the good things God gives as that which gives good. We turn these things into idols. Such is the case with most if not all addictive behaviors.

We have the promise here, God will hear us. We should believe and not doubt. But don’t think God is some divine vending machine, where you can press A3 and get a bag of Doritos. He is a person. He is our Father. He will answer our prayers in the way, time, mode, manner, amount and the like that is best for us. He is not going to answer our prayers in such a way that is bad for us or for others. Remember Jesus prayed, 42“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; but let it not be as I want it but as You want it.” We should be as humble as Jesus in our prayers.

18He will ransom me by His peace, from the war waged against me, for my adversaries are beside me.

Jesus is our peace. He is our ransom. The war that wages against us and our adversaries are sin, death, the devil and his minions. When we pray and look to Jesus for our standing before the Father we can and will know the peace of God. When we pray and don’t have peace it is because we are doubting God has heard us and will answer us. We are not submitting to His will for us in the moment. Thank God when you pray for hearing your prayer and answering your prayer, even when you do not see the answer yet. Then God’s peace you will know.

Paul writes in Phil. 4, “4Be happy in the Lord always! I’ll say it again: Be happy! 5Everyone should know how gentle you can be. The Lord is near. 6Don’t worry about anything, but in everything go to God, and pray to let Him know what you want, and give thanks. 7Then God’s peace, better than all our thinking, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Our hearts and minds are guarded in Christ Jesus when we understand and believe we are accepted by God on account of Jesus. Jesus has removed the enmity between us and the Father, which is our sin, by dying for our sin. Jesus clothes us with His righteousness as His blood shed for us covers us in the presence of the Father. It is on account of the faith we have in Jesus the Father hears our prayers and answers them.

Heavenly Father, we give you thanks and praise for providing for us the means for entering Your throne-room of grace, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our LORD. We thank you for calling us to be Your people and You making us our God in Christ Jesus. Continuously give us Your Holy Spirit so we may call upon You regularly so we may receive from Your hand all good things and we may recognize You as God and Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
