#DailyDevotion Let Us Give Thanks, Honor, Praise, Glory & Thanksgiving To God
Psalm 75 We thank You, O God; we praise Your name, O One Who is near; we tell of the wonderful things You have done.
If you are in a liturgical Church, these words may remind you of the Gloria or the Preface in the Divine service. It is a heaping up of praise and thanksgiving to the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Praise and thanksgiving is what the Church does. Telling everyone the wonderful things God has done for us and for everyone is first nature. We thank Him especially for providing us salvation through Jesus Christ our LORD and bestowing upon us freely by His grace-faith, life and salvation.
(The Lord:) 2“I will seize the appointed time, and judge men fairly. 3When the earth totters with all who live on it, I will make its pillars stand firm.
I don’t understand the fear Christians have of the tribulation (we’ve been living in it since the crucifixion) and judgment day. It should be a day we look forward to. God will finally, at the appointed time, judge men fairly. Thankfully, we who are Christians are judged, as far as eternal life or eternal damnation, on whether we have faith in Christ. There is another judgment as to what we did with the faith and grace given us, and some of us are just getting as a man escaping a burning building with just the clothes on our backs (1 Cor. 3). But, we are getting in. While the world may be shaken, God will stabilize it on that day.
(Music) 4Tell those who brag, ‘Don’t brag,’ and the wicked, ‘Don’t raise your horns, 5don’t raise your horns so high or speak so proudly against the Creator. 6No one from the east or the west or from the desert will help us rise.'”
A word of warning for us and the people of the world. We shouldn’t brag. No one is getting the new heavens and earth by their own merits. Those who think they have some claim on God based on who they are or what they have done are speaking proudly against their Creator. They don’t think they need someone to help them rise. They are wrong. All of us alike will only enter Paradise by the grace of God in Christ Jesus. There is no other way. If you try another way, then hell and eternal fire is your fate.
7Yes, God is the Judge; He puts one down and raises the other. 8In the Lord’s hand there’s a cup of foaming wine thoroughly mixed with spices, and He will pour from it – surely all the wicked on earth will drink it down to the very last drop.
We look at the evil in the world and wonder about God’s judgment. It is coming. No one is getting away with anything. We may wonder why He lets us suffer under it but we will be recompensed in the world to come which is eternal. We only suffer evil for a little while. We look to God our Father for justice and recompense for evil we have suffered in this life. God is our hope. The wicked have no hope. They don’t want our hope. Surely those who despise Christ will receive in full what they deserve.
9I will glorify the Eternal One, and sing to praise Jacob’s God. 10I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be raised high.
We return to praise of the Eternal One, Jacob’s God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We praise Him for His wisdom in judgment and salvation. The powerful will be cut down. We will be raised immortal, imperishable and powerful in Jesus Christ. Our horn is Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Father, we praise You with Your Son and the Holy Spirit for our salvation. Continually give us hope for the world to come so we can bear all things. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
