#DailyDevotion Jesus-YHWH-Is Our High Priest Before The Father
Hebrews 7:23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
The Lord had chosen the whole tribe of Levi to be priests before him. They offered up a lamb for sacrifice every morning and evening. On top of that they offered up any other sacrifices for the people, making intercession for them. Because there were so many sacrifices there was actually a ditch that carried the blood out of the temple area. The place literally flood with blood. I wonder if that is the stream that made glad the city of God. Well, these priests came and went generation after generation offering up the sacrifices of God. Death prevented any of them from continuing in office.
Jesus, our great high priest, after the order of Melchizedeck, holds the office forever. He was sacrificed by the high priest Caiaphus on behalf of the people on the cross of Golgatha. Yet, on the third day he rose bodily from the dead and 40 days later ascended into heaven to the right of God the Father, where he forever shows the Father his blood, the holes in his hands and feet.
At the right hand of God, Jesus intercedes for us continually. Praying for our forgiveness, praying for our faith, praying for whatever is necessary we remain faithful unto the end and holding himself out before the Father as our propitiation, our expiation from our sins. He presents his blood as the redemption price and the ransom due for our salvation.
So he can save us to the uttermost, we who draw near to God. We have an advocate before the Father who pleads our case. And we’re in luck. Our advocate is also the son of the Judge. Not only that, but whatever is due, whatever is needed, whatever is necessary for us to be acquitted, whatever is necessary to present us before the Father pure, blameless, without any blemish, Jesus has already taken care of for us when he walked visibly among us.
Jesus as the high priest and the Son of God, constantly makes intercession for you at the right hand of the Father. Therefore you need not fear coming close to God with all your petitions, supplications and requests, for Jesus himself presents them his gracious and most merciful Father and for his sake they are heard. Our Father in heaven will not drive us away because of our many sins, through faith in Christ and baptism we are covered with the blood of Christ and are holy to him. So boldly come before God and make your requests and you will be heard.
Heavenly Father, we are thankful for such a great high priest, your Son Jesus Christ, who intercedes for us all the time. Grant us such faith in his work that we may always come before you boldly in prayer to receive what we need in time of need. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
