#DailyDevotion Jesus’ Work Of Salvation Gives Us A New Song

Psalm 98 Sing to the LORD a new song — He has done wonderful things; His right hand and His holy arm have won Him victory. 2The LORD has shown how He saves and revealed His righteousness for the nations to see.

A new song requires a new work of God. The invitation to sing a new song to the LORD is because He has worked something new among Israel. He has done a wonderful thing. He sent His only-begotten Son into our flesh to fulfill His promise to David to have a descendant who would sit on his throne forever. Jesus is that descendant who, having ascended to the right hand of the Father rules forever.

Jesus is the right hand and holy arm of the LORD who has won the victory. The LORD has shown through Jesus how He saves and has revealed His righteousness to the nations. Jesus took our sins, our iniquity, our guilt upon Himself and has become the atoning sacrifice for the world. He saves us by Jesus’ dying. He shows God’s righteousness by showing what His righteousness demands when His law is transgressed. He shows us His righteousness by giving it to those who trust in Jesus’ work of salvation.

3He has remembered His kindness to Israel and His faithfulness to them. All the distant parts of the world have seen how our God can save.

The LORD accomplished this in Israel. He sent His Son to the Jews first who dwelt in the land of Israel. He sent His apostles to them first, from Jerusalem, to Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Then He sent His apostles and His Church to the nations to proclaim this salvation as well. The Good News of God’s kingdom coming into the world through Jesus Christ has been proclaimed to both Jew and Gentile in all the world and continues to be proclaimed through this new song.

4Shout to the LORD, all the world; break into happy shouting, and sing to praise Him. 5Make music to the LORD with a lyre, with a lyre and the sound of music, 6with trumpets and the blowing of a horn. Shout before the King, the LORD. 7May the sea roar like thunder and everything in it, the world and those who live in it.

The world and creation is called to join in this hymn of praise. All people everywhere are called to shout to the LORD with happy shouting of praise and thanksgiving. Even creation which currently groans under the pains of childbirth is called to join us in this song of salvation. Jesus, the LORD is our King. He is the King of the universe, of all that is seen and unseen. Creation rejoices with us because it too has been redeemed by Jesus’ death on the cross.

8May the streams clap their hands, and the hills shout happily together before the LORD, because He will come to judge the world; He will judge the world fairly and the people with justice.

Jesus is coming, the judge of the living and the dead. He will judge it fairly and He will judge His people with justice. We should remember, particularly in the Old Testament, judgment is not only condemnation. Judgment is also salvation. If you were ever in a lawsuit, there are two judgments, you owe and you are owed. You are condemned and you are saved. For all who have put their trust in Jesus Christ as the King and Savior, their judgment is, “You are saved. Receive what is due you. Inherit the earth and all that is in it.”

O Lord God and Father, You have through Your Son Jesus Christ, wrought a new thing through your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant us faith to sing this new song of salvation that when He comes in judgment, that judgment will be salvation for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
