#DailyDevotion Jesus & The Father Are One & You Are One With Jesus

John 147If you have learned to know Me, you’ll know My Father, too. From now on you know Him and have seen Him.” 8Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father; that’s enough for us.” 9“I’ve been with all of you so long,” Jesus answered him, “and you don’t know Me, Philip? If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ 10Don’t you believe I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? What I tell you doesn’t come from Me, but the Father, Who lives in Me, is doing His works. 11Believe Me, I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me because of My works. 12“I tell you the truth, if you believe in Me, you’ll do the works I’m doing, and you’ll do greater works than these, because I’m going to the Father, 13and I will do anything you ask in My name in order that the Son may glorify the Father. 14If you ask Me for anything in My name, I’ll do it.

John’s Gospel is the big, big believe in Jesus Gospel. One of the closing lines is John 2031“But these things are written so that you believe Jesus is the Christ, God’s Son, and by believing have life in His name.” Here Jesus is calling us to believe that if you have seen Jesus you have seen the Father. If you know Jesus you know the Father. If you believe in Jesus you believe in the Father. Indeed as he said in verse 8 you can’t get to the Father or know the Father apart from Jesus.

This is one of the great truths of Christianity, Jesus and the Father are one, one LORD, one God, one Almighty, one Holy, one Glory and one Name. As Jesus says, “Believe Me, I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me.” Jesus only speaks what the Father has given him to speak. Jesus only does what the Father has given him to do. Jesus appeals to his word and works to show he is from the Father and one with the Father. Who could do what he did if this were not so? The unity of Jesus and the Father are given in Paul’s blessings, 2 Cor. 1314“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all!” In Revelation 1 John writes, “Grace and peace to you from Him Who is and was and is coming, from the seven spirits who are before His throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, the faithful Witness.” Him here is the Father, distinct from the Spirit and Jesus Christ.” Then in verse 8 Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega (the A and the Z],” says the Lord God, Who is and was and is coming, the Almighty.” So the Father is the Alpha and the Omega, who is and was and is coming and Jesus is the Alpha and Omega who is and was and is coming. Jesus and the Father are one.

Jesus then joins us to himself which is the Gospel. “I tell you the truth, if you believe in Me, you’ll do the works I’m doing, and you’ll do greater works than these.” Now in Daniel it is written of the Son of Man, 714 “And He was given glory, power to rule, and a kingdom, so that all peoples, nations, and those of every language should serve Him. His authority is everlasting and will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.” Then Daniel writes, 27“And the kingdom, along with the power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the holy people of the Most High God. Their kingdom is everlasting, and all other authorities will serve and obey them.” That which is given to the Son of Man is given to the saints who are one with him. Being one with the Son, Jesus, gives us the authority of his name. Faith in Jesus’ name gets the prayers asked with faith in him answered.

Heavenly Father, you sent your Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ that he may believed on in the world so you may have for yourself a holy people. Grant us this faith that we may inherit the kingdom with Jesus at the end of the age. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
