Micah 2 12“I will certainly gather all of you, Jacob, and bring together the remnant of Israel. I will put them like sheep in their enclosure, like a flock in the middle of their pasture; they will be a noisy crowd. 13 One who breaks through will go up ahead of them. Then they will break through, go through the gate, and leave by it. Their king will go on ahead of them with the LORD leading them.”

If you don’t understand the Law-Gospel dynamic of Scripture and the LORD you may think this is the response of the false prophets. However, the false prophets previously would be saying Israel would not be scattered. We should remember the LORD wounds and heals. He kills and makes alive. So this gathering is post-exilic. Now the northern Israelites who were exiled would never be gathered back to the land. The Judites in the south would return piecemeal after the Babylonian captivity. We know there was a contingent of northern Israelites who settled around Jerusalem during the Assyrian era. They would have been exiled and returned with the Jews out of Babylon.

This gathering, this bringing together is the end times gathering that is occuring right now and has been occurring since Pentecost. The gathering of sheep and the flood points us to Jesus. Jesus in John 10 is certainly fulfilling this as He says the following, “ 2But the one who comes in through the door is the shepherd of the sheep. The doorkeeper opens the door for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by their names and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own sheep, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.” 7”I tell you the truth, I am the Door for the sheep.” “11I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” “16I have other sheep, too, that are not in this fold. I must lead those, too, and they will listen to My voice, and so they will become one flock with one Shepherd.”

Jesus is the One who breaks through and goes ahead of us. Jesus tells us in John 12, “26If you serve Me, follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be.” Again in John 14 Jesus says, “ 3And when I have gone and prepared a place for you, I’ll come again and take you home with Me so you’ll be where I am.” Jesus has conquered death and the grave by His resurrection breaking through these enemies of man and gone ahead of us to the place He is preparing for us, the New Heavens and New Earth, Paradise. We indeed will be a noisy crowd before the throne of God the Father and the Lamb as it is written in Rev. 7, “9After that I saw a large crowd that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language standing before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes, with palms in their hands. 10 And they called out loud: ‘We are saved by our God Who sits on the throne and by the Lamb!'”

Our King and LORD, the LORD Jesus Christ, goes ahead of us and leads us into His eternal kingdom. This is gift and offer to all mankind. All who are His people will listen to His voice and follow Him into our eternal home. This is His promise to you who believe. Live in this promise and do not let anything from this world disturb you. You can rest on this promise like a house built on a firm foundation. Our firm foundation is Jesus Christ. All God’s promises are Yes in Him.

Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for sending Jesus to be our Shepherd. Open our ears always to His voice that we may follow Him through death and the grave to glorious resurrection of our bodies and all creation to Your eternal glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
