#DailyDevotion Jesus Is Adonai, Who Carries Our Daily Burdens For Us
Psalm 68 19Praise the Lord! Day by day He carries our load for us. This is the God Who saves us. 20Our God is the God Who saves us; the Lord God is our escape from death. 21Yes, God crushes the heads of His enemies, the hairy scalps of those who go on in their guilt. 22The Lord says, “I will bring them back from Bashan; I will bring them back even from the depths of the sea 23so that you can bathe your feet in blood and your dogs’ tongues can get a share of the enemy.”
These are words which should give us comfort every day. Each day is the only day we have. No use looking to tomorrow for tomorrow may never come for you. But everyday that is today the LORD carries our load for us. This is why Jesus says to not be anxious for tomorrow, each day has enough of its own troubles to deal with. He also reminds us the Father knows what we need before we pray for it. So praise Adonai who carries our burdens and who saves us.
There are several names of God going on here; El, Adonai, and Yahweh. Lord God is Yahweh Adonai. Adonai is Lord is verses 19, 20 and 22. I find that interesting because that is the Lord in Psalm 110:1 which refers to Jesus. Note Adonai is only used of God in the Old Testament. So I believe we can clearly testify here that Jesus is the One who carries our load for us. Jesus is the One who saves us. Jesus is Yahweh who is our escape from death by taking our death into Himself on the cross. He is the One who brings us back from Bashan and from the depths of the sea.
God crushes the heads of His enemies. Such will be the case on the Last Day when those who reject Jesus as Adonai, as their God in this life, come against Him and His Church. Verse 23 is reminiscent of Rev. 14, “19The angel swung his sickle on the earth and gathered the grapes from the vine of the earth and threw them into the great winepress of God’s anger. 20The grapes were trodden in the winepress outside the city, and the blood flowed from the winepress as high as the horses’ bridles for about 200 miles” This is judgment day in that cycle in Revelation. It also reminds me of Rev. 19, “11Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse, and its Rider is called Faithful and True. He is righteous when He judges and goes to battle. 12 His eyes are flames of fire, and on His head are many crowns, and there’s a name written on Him, but only He knows what it is. 13He wears a garment dipped in blood and is called the Word of God.” Rev. 19 is a cycle of time which ends in chapter 20. This also depicts judgment day. But we should not fear it for it is the day Jesus brings us back, raises us from the dead and changes those of us who are still living. We will reign with Him forever then.
24One can see Your festive procession, O God, the procession for my God, my King, into the holy place. 25First come singers, then those who play instruments, surrounded by girls beating tambourines: 26“In the meetings of the congregation, bless God, the Lord, you who are born of Israel.” 27Look, Benjamin, the youngest, is leading them! Judah’s leaders with their shouting crowd, Zebulun’s leaders, Naphtali’s leaders.
Such is the festive procession on the Last Day when we enter into the New Jerusalem to make our home in the temple of our God. We will bless, give thanks and praise to our LORD Jesus Christ and the Father who sent Him to save us through the Holy Spirit. The great congregation of all the saints shall praise Him on that day. Everyone who is Israel through faith and baptism into Christ shall praise Him on that day. This being the case we should bless, praise and give Him thanks even now for the great salvation He won for us on Golgatha and for our final deliverance when He returns for us.
Heavenly Father, give us faith to put our faith in Adonai Jesus, whom You sent to be our Savior from sin and death. Open our lips that we may sing His praise now and again when He has us return to Him on the great day of His glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
