#DailyDevotion Jesus’ Flesh & Blood Give Us Access To God The Father
Heb. 10 19Fellow Christians, with the blood of Jesus we can now boldly go into the holy place 20by the new, living way He opened for us through the curtain, the way of His body, 21and we have a great Priest in charge of God’s house. 22Let us then come near God, sincere in our hearts and convinced in our faith, because our hearts were sprinkled to take away our guilty feelings, and our bodies were washed with clean water. 23Let us cling to the confession of our hope and not waver in it. He Who made the promise is faithful.
How great is the blood of Jesus? Even with the blood of bulls and goats, only the High Priest could enter the model of the Holy of Holies. Now look at how great the blood of Jesus is. With it, we can now boldly go into the Holy Place. You and I, regular old people, can enter the Holy of Holies in heaven above and come to the throne of God’s grace. This is unbelievable and magnificent. It’s crazy!
We have a new living way to the throne. Jesus opened up this way for us through the curtain, the way of His flesh. If we want to see the Father and have access to Him, we must come to Him through the flesh and blood of Jesus. Jesus tells us much in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. “No one comes to the Father except by Me.” If we do not believe Jesus is the Son of God is now truly human like us, we cannot approach the Father. But through the flesh and blood of Jesus we have access to the Father and can enter into the heavenly Holy of Holies directly through Jesus our mediator. He is one who inaugurated this new way.
Jesus is our great High Priest in charge of God’s house. He does not bar us from entering the Temple or the Holy of Holies but through His own flesh and blood opens it up to us and we have access to it. Since this is so, we are encouraged by the author to come near to God, with sincere hearts and convinced in our faith in Christ Jesus’ work of salvation. It is a great thing to be able to come near to the Father on His throne of majesty. But with the flesh and blood of Jesus we can do it boldly.
You see, in baptism, our hearts were sprinkled with the blood of Jesus and we have become one body with Him. With the water and the Word (Eph. 5) and the water and the Spirit (John 3) our guilty feelings were washed away and our bodies were dedicated to Christ with pure water (having been joined to the Word and Spirit). Anytime the devil tries to drag up our sins, we just make the sign of the cross upon which the flesh and blood of Jesus was crucified and remember in baptism you have been joined to Jesus’ crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection. (Rom. 6) Then our hearts can be at peace and we can regain the confidence and boldness before the Father of lights again.
With this great promise, we are encouraged to “cling to the confession of our hope and not waver in it.” Only in this hope should we have our rest. Let nothing drag us away from it. Jesus is the one who is faithful. His promise of forgiveness of sins, eternal life and the resurrection is guaranteed by His crucifixion and the empty tomb. He sits at the right hand of the Father guaranteeing our salvation and our access to the throne of God’s grace.
Merciful God and Father, You opened up access to Your throne to us through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and His offering up His flesh and blood. Give us Your Holy Spirit always that we may believe this and cling to this promise until the day we see You in Your Glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
