#DailyDevotion In The Morning Open Up Your Mouths To Your King

Psalm 5 Listen to what I’m saying, O LORD: understand what I’m sighing about. 2Listen to me when I call for help, my King and my God, because I’m pleading with You. 3O LORD, in the morning listen to me; in the morning I lay my needs before You and look up.

First thing in the morning is a good time to open your mouth towards God with prayer. In ancient Israel, the priests would offer up a lamb as a sacrifice to God. He deserves a sacrifice from our mouths when He wakes us up. You should try this out when you first wake up. If you can think of anything to say, just say, “Help!” You certainly need the LORD’s help during the course of the day even if you don’t know for certain what kind of help you need. God knows. You could say the LORD’s Prayer. It contains everything we need to pray for in this life and the world to come. Many people pray Psalm 5. You could do that. Stick a copy of it next to your bed so it’s there to read when you first awaken. Maybe put it in the bathroom or the kitchen. Those are probably your first destinations in the morning.

David calls upon the LORD to listen to what he is saying and what he is sighing about. He knows what’s going on in his life. If you give it a thought, you probably know what is going on in your life and what you need divine intervention with. He is simply doing what the LORD has promised to do when we pray with faith in Him.

David who is king of Israel turns to the LORD as his King and His God. He knows he is only God’s representative to rule. He looks to the KING of Israel and His God who has all power and authority to help him to fulfill his calling. You have a calling also to fulfill. Turning to the LORD your God for His help is a great thing to do as well. Whether you are a husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, employer, employee, teacher, student or citizen, you have a role in life to play for God, to be His hands in this world maintaining it. You should turn to him as David does and seek God’s help to do what you need to do this day according to his will.

Now while David certainly had promises from the LORD that He would hear him, we too have marvelous promises from the LORD Jesus Christ that God will hear, listen and answer our prayers. In Matt. 5:8 Jesus tells us, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” In chapter 7 Jesus says, 7“Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8Anyone who asks receives; anyone who searches finds; and anyone who knocks, the door will be opened for him.” In John 14, Jesus our King promises, “13and I will do anything you ask in My name in order that the Son may glorify the Father. 14If you ask Me for anything in My name, I’ll do it.” In John 16 Jesus tells us, “23…I tell you the truth, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24So far you haven’t asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive and your joy will be complete.

With such marvelous and wonderful promises from our LORD Jesus Christ, how can we not join David in opening our mouths with a sacrifice of prayer to the Father, knowing, based on Jesus’ promises, in whom all God’s promises are Yes? So open your mouths in prayers. Lay your requests before your King and know He hears, listens and answers you.

Heavenly Father, increase our faith in your promises so we may boldly come before you in the name of Jesus and place our requests before you, knowing such prayers are pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
