#DailyDevotion If The Lord Jesus Is Your Portion, Wait Quietly For His Deliverance

Lamentations 3: 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”  25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26         It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

The Levites were not given a portion of the land when they came into the Promised Land. The Lord was their portion. He was their inheritance. Whatever the people gave to the Lord that is what they were live on. Jeremiah reminds us also the Lord is our portion of our soul. That is why we should hope in him. What does this mean?

Paul writes, Gal 3:29 ESV “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” And again he says, Eph 1:11 ESV “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,…” Our inheritance is the kingdom of God and more than that God himself. We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. While we may often look to have ease of life and wealth in this world, what needs to calm our hearts and give us peace is the sure and certain knowledge the Lord is our portion.

Because the Lord Jesus Christ is our portion we should put our hope in him. God is faithful. All his promises are yes in Christ Jesus. He has promised us eternal life, his very life. He has promised us his righteousness, holiness and his kingdom. So our faith and hope are in Christ Jesus who makes these promises and seals them with his death and resurrection.

The Lord Jesus is good to those who wait for him and who seek after him. Those who wait and seek are those who have faith in his promise. We are not called to be Chicken Littles running around in fright because we do not see the Lord acting according the way, timing, shape, form, amount and manner we’d like to see him act.  The Psalmist writes, Psa 46:10 ESV “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Again he testifies, Psa 37:7-8 ESV “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!  (8)  Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.” Quit your running around trying to accomplish something because you do not believe the Lord will help you. Seek the Lord instead and calm your soul. Jesus has promised, Mat 6:33 ESV “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Therefore Jeremiah tells us it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Turn to him in the day of your trouble. Quiet your soul in his promises. Rest in the knowledge that he knows what you need and cares for you. Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage and he will strengthen your heart.

Heavenly Father grant us faith in your promised that you are our portion, our inheritance, you are our God so our hearts may wait patiently for you to act in the day of trouble so we may even more rejoice when grant us deliverance. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
