#DailyDevotion Do You Believe The Father Provides For You Or Not

Exodus 16:13-21 13In the evening quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning dew was lying around the camp. 14When the dew lifted, the desert ground was covered with something small and flaky as fine as hoarfrost on the ground. 15When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” because they didn’t know what it was. Moses told them, “This is the food the LORD gives you to eat. 16And this is what the LORD orders you to do: Everyone should gather as much of it as he can eat — take one and one-half quarts for each as you count the persons each of you has in his tent.” 17The Israelites did so, some gathering more, some less. 18But when they measured it with a measure, the one who gathered much didn’t have too much, and the one who gathered little didn’t have too little, but each had gathered as much as he could eat. 19Moses told them, “Nobody should keep any of it till morning.” 20But they didn’t listen to Moses. Some men kept part of it till morning, and it was full of maggots and stank. So Moses was angry with them. 21 Every morning each one gathered as much as he could eat. When the sun was hot, it melted away.

You might remember from yesterday the LORD said, “And I will test them to see if they will do what I tell them or not: Each day the people will go out and gather only what they need for that day.” Well that time had come. They found this white flaky stuff on the ground. They asked, “What is it?” (In Hebrew this is pronounced Manna) Moses told them it was the food the LORD provided them and gave them directions from the LORD as to how they would use it, keep it and the like. The LORD gave the Israelites exactly what they needed for each day, no more and no less. He gave twice as much on Friday because they were to rest on Saturday. They weren’t to keep any of it for the next day. Well we see what happened here. Some kept some for the next day and it rotted and was filled with maggots. This not doing what the LORD commanded them to do showed the lack of faith for some of them. They didn’t trust the LORD would provide enough for the next day.

Now Jesus tells us to pray for daily bread. He doesn’t tell us to pray for tomorrow’s bread. Our LORD Jesus Christ intends to give us what we need to live on for each day. He is not planning on giving us tomorrow’s needs. In Matthew 6 Jesus reminds us, “8…Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” Again Jesus tells us, 25“So I tell you, don’t worry about what you’ll eat or drink to keep alive or what you’ll wear on your bodies. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” Finally, Jesus says, “33Seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you, too. 34So, don’t worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Like the Israelites, we believers in Jesus Christ who have been redeemed by him from Satan (Pharaoh) and the world (Egypt) are called to live each day on its own. We don’t need to be anxious for tomorrow as those Israelites who tried to keep manna for the next day. Let us not faithless like them.

Jesus doesn’t lie. You either trust his words here in Matthew and trust him like the Israelites who left nothing for the next day or you call him a liar and act like he isn’t going to provide for you tomorrow’s needs if you wake up

tomorrow. What will it be?

Heavenly Father, you promise us daily bread. Give us faith to believe this and not live our days with anxious hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
