#DailyDevotion Delight & Rejoice In The LORD’s Power And Victories

Psalm 21 O LORD, in Your power the king rejoices; in Your victory how very delighted he is! 2You’ve given him what his heart desired and didn’t keep from him what he asked for. )

David indeed rejoiced in the power of God and he delighted in the victories the LORD gave him. In all of David’s battles, whether saving his flock from lions and bears, to defeating Goliath, to defeating all of Israel’s enemies, David relied on the LORD to fulfill his promises to Israel to give him the victory. David was so faithful to carrying out all the LORD commanded him the LORD gave David everything his heart desired and didn’t keep anything from him. We might note, the one time David got in trouble is when he didn’t ask the LORD for something, i.e. Bathsheba, but Nathan told David, all you had to do was ask for it, and she would have been yours (in a manner that was pleasing to the LORD).

Now too, Jesus rejoiced in the power of God and the victory He won for us over sin, death and the power of the devil. Now his mission is complete at the resurrection, the Father gives everything to Jesus. When we conform our thinking to that of the LORD and ask things according to his will, we too are promised he will give us our hearts desire. The born from above heart, not our corrupted heart.

3You come to him blessing him with good things and put on his head a crown of fine gold. 4He asked You for life — You gave it to him, long life, forever and ever.

David did receive many blessings from the LORD and a crown of fine gold was placed upon his head. David lived a long life in service to the LORD. Indeed, eternal life is his now and in the world to come but he is raised with the rest of us who put our faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. David did not live forever and ever. Here the psalm predicts the seed of David, the one who would reign on David’s throne forever. That would be Jesus, who was raised from the dead, never dies again and is seated at the right hand of the Father. We are promised by Christ to reign with him. Paul says we are already seated with him in the heavenly places (Eph. 2). In Revelation Jesus says to the Churches, those who overcome, he will seat on his Father’s throne.

5His glory is great because of the victory You gave him,You have laid honor and majesty on him. 6You have given him blessings that last forever. You have made him glad as he joyfully looks at You.

David’s glory was great because of the victories the LORD gave him. He was the instrument through whom the LORD fulfilled his promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The full extent of the territories the LORD promised them, he gave through David and Solomon ruled over. His blessings that last forever are not the worldly blessings but the blessings of the world to come which lasts forever.

Jesus, who fulfills the Davidic house prophecies, his glory is great because of his victories over sin, death and the power of the devil. He did not give in to the temptations of the devil. He took our sin upon himself and paid the price. Jesus cast down Satan from heaven so can no longer accuse us of our sins. Jesus joyfully looks to the Father, sitting at His right hand. Majesty, honor and glory are his and he promises to give the same to us on the Last Day.

Heavenly Father, you have bestowed majesty, honor and glory upon your Son Jesus Christ because of victory for us, your holy people. May we rightly praise and honor you and Jesus now and forever as he shares his glory with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
