#DailyDevotion You Christian Are ‘No Nation’ And ‘The Foolish Nation’

October 30th
Read Deut 31:30—32:27
Deu 32:1-4 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth. (2) May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. (3) For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! 4 “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

Moses proclaims the greatness of our God. He is the Rock. His work is perfect, his ways are justice. He is faithful and without iniquity. He then goes into the history of Israel and how the Lord had called him out from all the peoples of the earth and did everything for them to make them a great people with great blessings. Yet how did Israel repay the Lord? They went and chased after other gods, they worshipped demons and idols even their fathers didn’t know.

Because of this Moses says, Deu 32:21 “They have made me jealous with what is no god; they have provoked me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.” You Christian are the “no people.” You Christian are the “foolish nation.” St. Paul writes concerning you, 1Co 1:26-31 “For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. (27) But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; (28) God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, (29) so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. (30) And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, (31) so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”

Jesus is your Rock: 1Co 10:4 “and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.” Rom 9:33 “as it is written, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’” Having been called out of the world and its darkness by Christ our Rock we have similar praise for Christ Jesus as Moses did the Lord, who is Jesus. The question remaining for you is, are you going to be faithful to Jesus, the Lord? Are you going to look to Jesus for every good and recognize and proclaim Jesus as your righteousness, wisdom, sanctification and redemption? Or are you going to go and chase after strange gods, demons and empty philosophy like the ancient and present Israelites? By your faith in Christ Jesus you are to provoke Israel of the flesh to jealousy so they too may finally come to faith and also be re-grafted into to the spiritual Israel.

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for calling us out of darkness, nothingness and foolishness into the foolish faith of your crucifixion for our salvation. Ever make us witnesses of your salvation for us and for all the world. Amen.
