#DailyDevotion Don’t Be Afraid To Fail In Converting People, That’s The Holy Spirit’s Job. You Witness And Harvest

February 12th

Read John 4:27–45

Joh 4:34-38  Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.  (35)  Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.  (36)  Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.  (37)  For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’  (38)  I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.  Jesus’ food is to do the will of the Father.  That would be being according to his own nature the Word of God.  He must preach it and live according to it.  Jesus is sent to accomplish the work he was sent to do which is to go to the cross, die, and rise again to defeat death and the one who has the power over death, the devil.

As we read these words we as Christians who seek to spread the good news should take great comfort in them.  Why is that?  Because Christians are so often so fearful of not being successful in “winning” converts to Christ.  But you see that is not really our job.  The Holy Spirit is already at work in the world preparing those whom God the Father has chosen and appointed unto eternal life.  He is working through the Word of the Church already out there.  Someone else has already done the sowing.

So what are we to do?  It’s quite simple, we go out and harvest.   The fields are white, that is they are ripe.  We are simply entering their labor.  Well how do we do that?  Just as simple, we share the good news of Jesus Christ with whoever will listen.  We invite people to church.  We minister to them with the word of God.  Those who belong to Christ will be harvested.  It’s not up to you whether or not they believe.  Those who belong to Jesus hear his voice.

So don’t be afraid of failing in reaching out to people with Jesus.  You can’t fail.  This takes away our fears of sharing Christ.  It makes it so much simpler.  Jesus has already done the hard work.

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for sending your Spirit into the world to work on men’s hearts.  Put your Word in our mouths as we speak to the world so that those who are yours will be harvest to eternal life.  Amen.
