#DailyDevotion The 2nd Time The End of The World Is Described In Revelation
December 18th
Read Rev 6:1–17
Rev 6:12-17 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, (13) and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. (14) The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. (15) Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, (16) calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, (17) for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”
So here is the 2nd time the end of the world is described by Revelation. All of this language in these verses are descriptions of the last day or judgment day. As always it’s important here to look to the clear passages of scripture. Joe 2:30-32 “I will give warnings of that day in the sky and on the earth; there will be bloodshed, fire, and clouds of smoke. (31) The sun will be darkened, and the moon will turn red as blood before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. (32) But all who ask the LORD for help will be saved. As the LORD has said, ‘Some in Jerusalem will escape; those whom I choose will survive.’ ” Peter preaches from this in Acts as being fulfilled in Acts. We are not talking about the beginning of a seven year period. That was 2,000 years ago.
Isa 33:24-34:4 “No one who lives in our land will ever again complain of being sick, and all sins will be forgiven. (34:1) Come, people of all nations! Gather around and listen. Let the whole earth and everyone living on it come here and listen. (2) The LORD is angry with all the nations and all their armies. He has condemned them to destruction. (3) Their corpses will not be buried, but will lie there rotting and stinking; and the mountains will be red with blood. (4) The sun, moon, and stars will crumble to dust. The sky will disappear like a scroll being rolled up, and the stars will fall like leaves dropping from a vine or a fig tree.” Verse 24 is key here as it speaks of the new heavens and the new earth. We note what happens before the “great and terrible day of the Lord.” Peter speaks of it in is second epistle, 2Pe 3:10 “But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that Day the heavens will disappear with a shrill noise, the heavenly bodies will burn up and be destroyed, and the earth with everything in it will vanish.” Verse 17 is most important, the great day of their wrath has come. That great day is the last day, the day of the Lord’s return. It’s here at the 6th seal. The 6th seal is the end of the world. The other 5 seals are not occurring in a linear fashion but concurrently. Even the 6th is partially running concurrently as part of it is declared fulfilled on Pentecost.
Any good news? Rev 6:11 “Each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to rest a little while longer, until the complete number of other servants and believers were killed, as they had been.” And with the robe of Christ’s righteousness we can stand before the Lord on the last day.
Lord we thank you that you have told us these things that we might not be troubled as we see the signs of these last days. Continually clothe us with your righteousness that we may stand before you on the day of your return. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
