#DailyDevotion Give Praise To Your Creator
December 16th
Read Rev 4:1–11
Rev 4:8-11 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (9) And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, (10) the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, (11) “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
John’s vision continues with a look at the Cosmos from God’s point of view. Everything is centered on the one sitting on the throne. Everyone and everything whether they know it or not, whether they like it are not, are centered around the Father and the Lamb the Spirit. The living creatures (they look something like cherubim of Ezekiel but they are different) sing a song similar to the one sung by the seraphim of Isaiah chapter 6. Both testify to the triune nature of the true and Living God. Holy, Holy, Holy creation sings out praising the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. “Who was, and is, and is to come” demonstrates the eternal nature of God. It is therefore silly and impudent to ask what existed before God. God is eternal, there is no before and no after. God is Existence, he is the one is I AM.
This is the God of creation. The creatures give him glory, honor, and thanks. They do this because He is their and our Creator. As the living creatures sing, so do the elders (who represent most likely the 12 patriarchs of Israel and the 12 apostles) who as a whole represent the whole Church, the body of Christ of both the Old and New Testament. It by God’s will all thing were created and have their existence. Nothing that exist could exist without the will of God.
We have Genesis chapters 1 and 2 which teach us this. Creation sings with the Psalmist Psa 148:1-14 “Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights! (2) Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! (3) Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! (4) Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! (5) Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. (6) And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. (7) Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, (8) fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! (9) Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! (10) Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds! (11) Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! (12) Young men and maidens together, old men and children! (13) Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven. (14) He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his saints, for the people of Israel who are near to him. Praise the LORD!”
Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, all that is seen and unseen, we give you glory, honor, thanks and praise for you have created us and you sustain us by your will. May we always remember we are your creatures and our existence depends on you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
