Sunday, April 15th @ 6:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:30pm on Sunday, repeating indefinitely
Autism, Sensory-Issue, Light, and Scent-Friendly Sunday Worship
Osage Beach, MO (October 15, 2017)- Hope Lutheran Chapel is starting a new weekly Sensory Sensitive Sunday Worship Service beginning Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The service is designed for people with autism, people with meniere’s disease who can’t handle choirs signing or organ music, those requiring a service animal, and individuals with any other with sensory issues.
Hope Lutheran’s Sensory Sensitive Service will be held without the use of fluorescent lighting. The microphone system and speakers will be turned off. Instead of the traditional organ music, a guitar or the piano will be played and the top of the baby grand will be closed to prevent the music from being too loud for those who do not handle too much noise well. Additionally, families are invited to bring noise-canceling headphones for anyone who they feel may benefit from them.
Fidget spinners, weighted blankets, regular blankets, and sunglasses are all appropriate items to bring to service if it will help the family members attending.
There will be a special section for people with service animals, and those bringing service animals are requested to bring a blanket or towel for the animal to sit on.
“We want everyone with service animals to feel comfortable bringing them into the church, but we also want to be cognizant of the fact that some people are allergic to animals, which is why we are having a special section for them,” said Christina Williams, wife of Rev. Guillaume Williams, Sr.
All attendees and participants are asked to refrain from wearing perfumes and body sprays. Additionally, no incense will be used during the service.
Hope Lutheran Chapel is located at 1027 Industrial Dr. in Osage Beach. It is next to KRMS radio, and the church sign is visible from Osage Beach Parkway. If you have questions, please contact Rev. Williams at (573) 348-2108.
