#DailyDevotion This Is What You Did To Make God Love You & Save You

2 Tim. 19He saved us and called us to be holy, not because we did anything, but because He planned a gift of His grace and gave it to us in Christ Jesus before the world began; 10it has now come to light by the coming of our Savior Christ Jesus. He took away the power of death and by the good news brought into the light the life that can’t be destroyed.

Now this is a great statement of the Gospel. Jesus saved us…not because of anything we did. You get that? There was nothing in you that caused Jesus to save you or anyone else. This saving occurred because of the great love the Father loved us with in Christ Jesus. You didn’t do anything to earn God’s grace. There was no quality in you that moved God to sacrifice his son for you. He loved you and that was it.

He also called us to be holy, not because of anything we did. It was his own doing that he separated you out from all other people on earth. He didn’t separate you out for any other reason than his love for you. You weren’t holy first and then were saved. No, he saved you first and then called you to be holy, a people distinct and separate from the rest of the world.

Now this saving of you wasn’t happenstance. No it was a planned gift of his grace. God planned on saving you and giving you this gift of salvation. What a way of showing us this salvation was not our doing, meriting or some quality in us. Salvation is a gift. It is not a reward for something we did. He gave it to us in Christ Jesus. This salvation is to be found no where else. To place our salvation and the certainty of it in anyone else, including ourselves, is to blaspheme Christ Jesus and the Father above.

In hopes that we would not look at ourselves or to show we did not earn or merit this salvation, besides telling us it was nothing we did. It was a planned gift. It is given to us in Christ Jesus. Now the pièce de résistance, God planned it before the world began. Yes, before you were born or your parents were born, before Adam and Eve sinned, before God spoke the world into existence God the Father planned on saving you in Christ Jesus just because he loved you. In Rev. 13:8 it is written, “the Lamb Who was slain from the beginning of the world.” The Father knew the mess humanity would get itself into and he decided to create us anyway. He knew how we would rebel and he created us anyway with a plan to save us. His own son would become the salvation of the whole world.

This salvation God had planned, he has revealed in Christ Jesus. We cannot know of God’s love for us nor our salvation apart from Jesus. We cannot even truly know who God is apart from Christ Jesus. While the Lord our God provided promises concerning this salvation throughout time, it was not fully understood until Jesus revealed it.

Heavenly Father, because of your great love for us in Christ Jesus you have provided a way for us to be saved. You planned it before the foundation of the world. Grant us to believe this always that we may overcome sin and death and enter into your eternal kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
