#DailyDevotion Presents Are Great, But Wait, There’s More!

Galatians 46And because you are sons, God sent into our hearts the Spirit of His Son, Who cries, “Abba! Father!” 7So you are no longer a slave but a son. And if you are His son, God has made you His heir.

We were all once slaves to the Law. However, God’s son Jesus Christ redeemed us from the Law, from the curse of the Law and from subjection to the Law. We have been  adopted by God and have become God’s sons through baptism into Jesus Christ. Having become God’s sons through baptism God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his son, who cries, “Abba! Father!” Such a marvelous thing to know God as our Father.

Yes, on Christmas, the Father not only sent his son into the world to redeem us from our sins and from the curse of the Law but to make us his sons in his son Jesus Christ. No angel can make this claim. Having been placed in Christ Jesus our Lord in baptism, the Father sees us in Jesus. Jesus is the only begotten of the Father from eternity. We are joined with him so the Father when he sees us, he sees Jesus his son. We have been brought into the family of God. This is God’s doing!

We can now with the boldness and confidence, covered with the blood of Jesus  come into the throneroom of God and cry out “Abba! Father!” and be confident whatever we ask we shall receive. Yes, he has given us his Holy Spirit that we may believe such wonderful and marvelous promises to believe such things and to pray with the power of the Holy Spirit. Indeed Jesus has given us the promise that whenever we ask the Father he gives the Holy Spirit to assist us in our prayers and he himself intercedes with and for us.

Now since we are no longer slaves but sons then God has also made us his heirs. Now an heir is someone who receives another’s belonging, authority and power when the other person dies. When did God die? When Jesus died on the cross. It is written, “You have killed the Author of life” and “They crucified the Lord of glory.” Having become God’s heirs through baptism and faith in Christ, we are co-heirs with him.

Well what did we inherit? God’s life and light. The eternal life that and light which shines from him is now ours in Christ. Jesus promises those who believe in him will never die, and we never taste death. Even as we are now seated with Christ in the heavenly places, on the Last Day he will place us on the throne of the Father and rule the nations and creation. The Father’s power, authority and might are ours too on the day we receive our inheritance. All creation indeed will set under our dominion. The immeasurable riches and glory of our Father are ours now in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Because this is so we can look at all the things of this world, all of them are transitory, they are here today and gone tomorrow, and not fret losing every single one of them. We look with confidence to tomorrow, to the Last Day, when everything that is the LORD’s will be ours and what he gives is eternal. It cannot be stolen, broken, or waste away. You can count on it.

Heavenly Father you have adopted us as your sons in Christ Jesus. Continually give us your Holy Spirit to pray and to endure so we may receive your promised inheritance. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
